2016 is here and she brought some sunshine and winter temperatures with her. While I’ll be scribbling to turn my 5s into 6s as I write the date for the next few weeks, I’m excited to see what the year will bring. I’m not big on resolutions and focusing on negative things, but I’d like to keep doing more of the good. More game nights with friends and trips to the gym. More fruits and veggies and more books! No big goals to set or bad habits to change, just a little more good.
While thinking about the year ahead I decided to pick a word and verse for the year and landed on the word Flourish.
Flourish:To grow or develop in a healthy or vigorous way.
Landing on my word flourish led me to this verse in PSALM 52.
But I am like an olive tree
flourishing in the house of God;
I trust in God’s unfailing love
for ever and ever
I feel like this word and passage fits me where I am in life and who I want to become. I want to do things that help me grow whether it’s as a writer, a christian, a creative, or just being healthy. Growth can be slow at times and I often find myself wanting to make quick radical changes but in order to flourish I know my growth will have to be slow and steady. I have a long way to go in life and I’m excited to see where this life leads me.I also wish God would send me an itinerary for the year, but since that doesn’t seem to be His M.O. I will just work with today. I hope that in a year from now I have new stories to tell in all the ways my life flourishes in 2016.
Do you have a word or verse for the year? I’d love to hear what you landed on!
